This is a Colinda – a Traditional Christmas Carol of Oas It is a carol about the birth of Jesus as foretold in the Old Testament prophecies; ”In the city of Bethlehem”.
It is the carol they sing in Oas the most, also when gathered in church on Christmas day Oas, Satu Mare, North Romania.

TRADITION OF FASTING
In the villages it’s common to do 40 day fast to prepare spiritually for Christmas and after that comes naturally celebration that you feel in a deeper way.
CHRISTMAS
On christmas eve you don´t eat anything but bread. After sunset and go carolling with dance, singing and mask traditions. Then next days there can be dancing drinking and weddings again.

VIOLIN
The violin is special and tunes higher for a sharper sound. The words can be improvised fully or mixed in new ways from old rhymes – like the same as doina’s. The bridge of the violin is also changed.
SWEDISH
Julsång från länet Oas eller Tara Oasului i nordvästra Rumänien mot gränsen till Ungern och Ukraina. Detta är bygden Bixad där Irina Man med sin folkkör sjunger julhymner som ni aldrig hört maken till.
Detta är en av de mest unika sång stilar som ännu lever kvar.
På juldagen ses alla män och ropsjunger koraler i kyrkan. Alla står upp. Alla i hatt med plym och traditionell dräkt. Alla öppnar sin stämma och ropar ut julens budskap.
Sen går alla runt och sjunger från gård till gård. Det är högt, starkt och mäktigt. Även sjukhusets patienter får sina arma kroppar genomsjungna.
Gatorna är fulla av firande hemvändare. Inte en sekund går förlorad.
