For several years now, Malin Skinnar has been wandering through the wide world in a sort of cultural conundrum, seeking the essence of the human being long lost in the so called developed countries, which are actually just technologized.

Malin Skinnar is: a storyteller, writer illustrator, theatrical performer, artist and producer with a Mobile Digital Stage.

She administers www.malinstoryteller.com in Sweden.

Malin is searching, and when she finds LIFE in it’s natural state, in the core of it’s wisdom, in the simplicity now lacking from the unpredictable, overdeveloped world lacking culture, then she stops on her journey.

She’s looking for people, tells stories, discovers old music and through music gets to the soul of the communities.

Several times she’s been to Maramures and made friends in Lapus.

Now she  is writing a book about Maramures and Oas, about people, feelings, profoundness, LIFE!

Malin has Maramures in her heart and mind.

She’s learned Romanian words which she says with passion and feeling.

Sometimes she sleeps in her mobile home with which she wanders the roads of Europe, sometimes she stays at a hotel, leaving her car in a parking.

Most often, she stays in the homes of her friends.

For Malin Skinnar, Maramures is a spectacle of an old, wise world that can be found again in the stories and songs of those who keep the local traditions.

Her presence reminds me of Gail Klingman**: an American woman who came to Maramures during the time of the Communists, who learned the Romanian language with the villagers of Ieud and spoke this wholesome tongue at meetings with the top intellectuals of Romania.

Gail has writte extraordinary books about Maramures during the Communist era.

Malin Skinnar has herself found the key to the wisdom of Maramures. She will write a book whose destiny I hope will be like that of the books written by Gail Kligman.

It’s been one month since Malin Skinnar has come back to Maramures, she is meeting the real people, keepers of the wisdom of Maramures, Lapus and Oas historical areas.

I saw on a DVD a theatre play staged by Malin Skinnar in Sweden. A play which has been successful and has been performed in sold out venues. It’s possible that in a future edition of the Atelier Festival organized by Radu Macrini of the Theatre of Baia Mare, this theatrical endeavor will find itself a nice place.
